Mecletter June | 2025, the emergence of 181ZB of data... 🤔 | White Paper on Data Analysis in the AI Era 📑 Download

Date of creation : 2024-07-02

Hello, dear readers of the Meckletter!
This temperature, this humidity…💦 I greet you at the onset of summer, which has suddenly approached.🙇‍♂️

The importance of data is emphasized more than ever these days, but many of you might be wondering, ‘So what should we do about it?’ regarding data management.
For those individuals, this Meckletter has prepared content that can solve data concerns, from recent trends in data explosion to methods for implementing data architecture.

📑 In the main text, we have packed an efficient data analysis white paper exclusively for Meckletter readers, so don’t miss it!

In 2025, the emergence of 181ZB of data…😮

How much data do you consume in a day through Netflix, YouTube, social media, and online shopping? According to a survey by global data analytics company Statita, data generated in a single day amounts to 300TB (Terabyte), and it is estimated that the total amount of data generated by 2025 will reach a staggering 181ZB (Zettabyte).

If we consider the beginning of data storage to be the discovery of papyrus in 2600 BC, approximately 20EX (Exabyte) of data was created from the time humanity first began to record until the early 2000s. Interestingly, within this long history, only 50ZB of data was created in just 20 years from the early 2000s to 2021.

Data Analysis in the AI Era🤖

What impact does this data explosion phenomenon have on business? As generative AI becomes widespread, many companies are striving to create various success stories to keep up with the trend. Alongside this, the importance of the underlying data is being emphasized even more. The ability to process and store large-scale data is essential for training AI, machine learning, and deep learning models.

To utilize data efficiently, a lot of preparation is needed within the organization. It is especially important to establish a smooth data flow from data generation to analysis and AI systems. At this time, procedures such as ETL (Extract·Transform·Load), data standardization, and anonymization must be followed. If different databases and storage are operated for each type of data, the amount of groundwork can increase exponentially.

Moreover, many companies often face difficulties because they either lack a data management organization or operate with very few personnel. In such cases, appropriately using a data architecture that fits the characteristics and circumstances of each company can help alleviate these difficulties. From now on, let’s take a closer look at the types of data architecture and how to implement them efficiently.

Data Warehouse? Data Lake?🤔

Data architecture refers to a series of systems that determine the overall methods of data storage, collection, processing, and analysis. It involves how and where to store, collect, and analyze data, and this data architecture is evolving in line with technological changes. The most representative examples are the data warehouse and data lake that many have heard of.

A data warehouse is a repository that stores data transformed into a structured format. In this case, data is generally organized in a table format and stores information based on a schema. Since only the necessary data is filtered and stored, it allows for efficient access and search of data, making it suitable for business intelligence (BI) activities and data analysis.

However, in the case of a data warehouse, managing data separately by department can lead to data silo issues, making it difficult to utilize for machine learning, which needs to handle semi-structured and unstructured data. To solve these problems, the data lake emerged.

The data lake is a concept that first appeared in the 2010s, and it is a massive repository that stores all types of raw data, including structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data. By aggregating all organizational data in one place, it is easy to create new value for various purposes such as data analysis, machine learning, and AI development. However, due to the accumulation of large amounts of data, there are cases where it falls into a data swamp, making it difficult to utilize the data effectively.

Boom, the emergence of the Data Lakehouse✨

After that, the Data Lakehouse, which is based on scalable object storage like a data lake while also enabling data management and analysis, has emerged. It has been praised for combining the advantages of both data warehouses and data lakes.

The Data Lakehouse is characterized by its ability to store raw data as is, while also providing advanced analytics on structured data like a data warehouse and maintaining data consistency through ACID (Atomic·Isolated·Consistent·Durable) transactions.

How can our company manage data easily?💾

Many experts emphasize that the most important thing when establishing a data policy is to clarify the insights and BI goals that one wants to achieve through data. At this time, working with a proven partner who can assist in all stages, from data consulting to governance establishment, pipeline construction, and visualization, can effectively reduce costs and time.

Megazone Cloud operates a Data Lab program that can quickly implement projects in a short period and enhance customers' data utilization capabilities. Together with Megazone Cloud's Data Solutions Architect, companies can design and build solutions using their data in their respective environments. A significant advantage is that it allows the internal data management capabilities of customer companies to be internalized during project execution.

Based on the experience gained from Data Lab and Data Solution Architecting, the duration of cloud projects can be accelerated from months to just a few days, and optimal solutions can be built to solve the most challenging technical difficulties. If you have many concerns about how to manage your company's data well, explore ways with the Data Lab!

The Future of Data Confirmed at the Snowflake Data Cloud Summit❄️

From June 3 to 6, the Snowflake Data Cloud Summit was held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. This Summit, themed around AI, Apps, and Data, featured over 500 sessions and was attended by more than 20,000 visitors. Megazone Cloud, the first premier partner of Snowflake in Korea, could not miss this Summit!😉

Especially due to the influence of AI expert Sridhar Ramaswamy's appointment as the new CEO earlier this year, unlike the last Summit which emphasized data cloud, this year AI/ML was heavily emphasized. New AI feature updates and new service GA news, such as Cortex AI, Document AI that helps with semi-structured data extraction, and the LLM model Arctic, were also confirmed.
